Katharine McPhee looks quite stunning in the March issue of GQ magazine, which hits newsstands on Feb. 21.

The American Idol alumnus, who was the runner-up to winner Taylor Hicks in the show's fifth season, talked about her new show, "Smash," which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Broadway musicals.

She addressed skeptical men who would refrain from seeing what might be perceived as a show for a strictly female audience.

"I go see all the guy movies, so now I know I love them," McPhee told GQ. "But you have to be open to it. I would say to the girlfriends out there: Just nail him down, make him watch an episode with you."

McPhee also spoke with People magazine about the challenges of landing a role in Hollywood. Her "Smash" character, Broadway hopeful Karen Cartwright, faces her own problems when going to auditions.

"I think you're always in that place, no matter what level you're at," McPhee told People. "Even the biggest of actresses, unless you get the direct offer, whenever there's a hot project, all the top actresses go in for the part. Everyone in this business can relate."

She also revealed a part that got away from her: the role of the bride in "The Hangover," which was taken by actress Sasha Barrese. McPhee said that she and Barrese were the final two actresses to be considered for the part.

"I didn't get it, but I went all the way," she told People. "I would have loved to play that part."
