Singer Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48.
The singer's publicist Kristen Foster confirmed that the singer had died but did not provide the cause of death. Houston was found unconscious in a hotel room in Los Angeles. She was planning to go to a pre-Grammy Awards party on Saturday night, hosted by music empresario Clive Davis who had helped launch her career three decades ago.
Houston's career was at its peak in the 1980s and 1990s. She is one of the world's best-selling artists and is known for such hits as "How Will I Know," ''Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She also had screen success with the movie "The Bodyguard."
The multiple Grammy Award winner battled drug addiction for years and recently her career and record sales had suffered.
