Adidas sales zoom from 2010 FIFA World Cup

On Monday, Adidas, a German sportswear giant said that is expecting huge sales amounting to €1.5 billion ($1.85 billion) in the football category. This is above 15 percent increase in sale compared with 2008 and 25 percent rise against the sales of €1.2 billion ($1.48 billion) in FIFA World Cup in 2006

With the sales of over 6.5 million replica jerseys, the company already sold twice the number in 2006 (3 million). For the first quarter, football products sales increased by 26 percent. Adidas said it will also sell more footballs than ever before. The company provides the Jabulani match ball for the World Cup.

“After the first ten days it is already clear that this World Cup will be a great success for adidas. We will not only achieve our ambitious goals in football, we will over-achieve them. Our football business is growing worldwide. This underlines the global power this tournament has," said,Herbert Hainer, CEO of adidas AG.

Adidas is Official Sponsor, Supplier and Licensee of the FIFA World Cup. Adidas also provides the equipment for all officials, referees, volunteers and ball kids. In the current World Cup, adidas equips more than 200 players as well as 12 teams.
