Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of the late Whitney Houston and her ex-husband Bobby Brown, was hospitalized following the shocking death of her mother.

The 18-year-old was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles via ambulance, at 11.15 a.m., according to police, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., where she was staying with her mother.

A report by Reuters quoted a spokeswoman from the fire department as saying Bobbi was awake and talking normally while being taken to the hospital. However, she refused to divulge any more details.

She was released later on Sunday after being treated for stress and anxiety and is expected to be heading to her grandmother's place in New Jersey, reports CNN.

Mother and daughter shared a somewhat on-again-off-again relationship.

"As to be expected, she's overwhelmed -- it's her mother. She knows how much her mother meant to the world. And Bobbi Kristina has a huge heart, just like her mother. She loves hard, she is going to be OK, and we're going to see to it," said Kim Burrell, a gospel singer and friend of the family, whom Bobbi refers as Auntie Kim.

Born in 1993, Bobbi emerged as a public figure during the reality show "Being Bobby Brown", where she often appeared along with her parents. The mother-daughter duo even performed together and sang "My Love Is Your Love" in 2009, in Central Park, on ABC's "Good Morning America" on national television.
