Director Michael Bay will make another Transformers film, despite earlier claims that he would step down from the series.

During an interview with MTV, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura claimed that Bay will direct at least one more Transformers film, which is expected to hit screens in 2014.

Despite coming under heavy fire from critics, the profitability of the Transformers franchise cannot be denied, with the most recent effort, Dark Side of the Moon, grossing more than $1bn.

Di Bonaventura also revealed that the new film could be a "reboot" of the Hasbro franchise, which looked to have stalled last year when Bay and star Shia LaBeouf indicated they would step down.

"Whether there's going to be anyone from the first cast, we don't even know yet. But it's going to be a whole new story," he said.
