Top Two-Sport Athletes
A number of athletes, including Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers, participated in this past weekend's Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Romo is not only one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, he is also a scratch golfer.
But he's not the only professional athlete who excels at another sport.
There are countless players in the NBA, NFL and MLB that could've played a different sport if they chose to.
Here's a list of the top 10 two-sport athletes in professional sports today.
Erick Decker
The Broncos wide receiver wasn't only a football star in Minnesota. Decker played baseball as well, and was drafted in the 2008 and 2009 MLB Drafts.
Carl Crawford
The Red Sox outfielder could've have played football, baseball or basketball in college. He had a scholarship offer to play point guard at UCLA and could've played quarterback for a number of colleges.
Tony Gonzalez
Gonzalez made it to the Sweet Sixteen as a forward at the University of California. The tight end could've stayed at Cal on more year to play basketball, but entered the NFL Draft. Looks like he made the right decision.
Mark Derosa
Derosa signed with his seventh different MLB franchise this offseason, but was also a good football player in his younger days. He was the starting quarterback at the University of Pennsylvania ffrom 1993-1995
Antonio Gates
The tight end didn't even play football in college. He was star on the Kent State basketball team, averaging 20 points per game in his senior season.
Julius Peppers
Before becoming one of the best defensive ends in the NFL, Peppers played basketball for North Carolina.
Todd Helton
The Rockies first baseman received a scholarship to play baseball an football at the University of Tennessee. Helton only started a few games for the Volunteers before being replaced by Peyton Manning.
Matt Moore
The Dolphins quarterback wasn't drafted by an NFL team, but he was selected the Angels in the 2004 MLB Draft.
Tom Brady
Brady may have been a more hyped baseball player than quarterback. He was drafted in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos.
Jeff Samardzija
Samardzija was the ultimate two-sport star. He was a star wide receiver at Notre Dame and could've been a first round draft pick had he chosen to play football. In 2011, he finished the season with a 2.97 ERA with the Cubs.
