Indian Police Searching for Bomber Who Attacked Israeli Diplomat

Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta described the suspect as wearing a brown jacket and driving a red-colored bike, who attached a magnetic device to the Israeli embassy car when it was standing at the Aurangzeb Road red light."

Police are also conducting forensic examinations of the car to find clues.

Israeli officials are also assisting with the investigation.

"There is day-to-day cooperation between Israeli authorities and Indian security authorities. Very close cooperation," Israeli Embassy spokesman David Goldfarb said in a statement.

The injured diplomat was identified as Tal Yehoshua Koren, a woman, who was on her way to fetch her children from school.

According to reports, she is in critical but stable condition in hospital. Three other people were also hurt in the bombing.

Concurrent with the attack in New Delhi, an Israeli diplomat in Tbilisi, Georgia was also targeted by a similar bomb (which was defused in time).

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Iran and/or Hezbollah of responsibility in the attacks – a charge Teheran denies.

"Iran is behind these attacks and it is the largest terror exporter in the world," Netanyahu said.

In response, Ramin Mehmanparast, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry derided Netanyahu's accusations as "psychological warfare against Iran".

"We condemn any terrorist action and the world knows that Iran is the biggest victim of terrorism," he added.

Similarly, Iran's ambassador to India, Mehdi Nabizadeh, told Iran’s IRNA news agency: "These accusations [by Israel] are untrue and sheer lies, like previous times."

Chidambaram declined to speculate the identity or nationality of the attacker.

"At the moment, I am not pointing a finger at any particular group or any particular organization," he said, but asserted that “we condemn the attack in the strongest terms.”

The bombing took place in a heavily fortified area of New Delhi not far from the residence of the Prime Minister.

India has friendly relations with Israel, but is dependent on Iran for oil imports.
