Macy's will add about 4,000 full-time employees this year, the retail giant's CEO Terry Lundgren told a group of fashion students on Friday, according to Reuters.

Macy's needs more store managers and more online shoppers, he said in a speech to students of the Parsons New School for Design at the store's flagship location in Herald Square, kicking off a partnership between the learning institution and the City of New York.

"These are high paying jobs," he said.

The number would match the 4,000 Macy's added in 2011, bringing the company's total to about 170,000 full-time employees in 850 stores.

Lundgren remained somewhat more circumspect about expanding overseas, saying the company's store in Dubai was "back on track."

"It's a natural for a Macy's or a Bloomingdale's," he said. "It's a matter of when and where."
