Fat Athletes
The day before Ash Wednesday is known as Fat Tuesday. It is a day when many Christians overindulge in food in preparation of Lent.
Most professional athletes are in good shape, but some look like they celebrate Fat Tuesday all year long.
Many athletes continue to excel in their respective sports despite being overweight.
Here are some of the fattest athletes in sports today.
Glen Davis
Davis’ size has earned him the nickname “Big Baby.” The Magic forward weighs 289 pounds at six-foot-nine.
Bartolo Colon
The pitcher had a bounce-back season in 2011 despite weighing 267 pounds. He signed with the Athletics this past offseason.
Prince Fielder
The first baseman weighs 275 pounds even though he’s not even six feet tall. His father, Cecil Fielder, weighed as much as 230 pounds during his playing career.
Albert Haynesworth
Haynesworth’s weight has plagued him in recent years. The 350-pounder was recently released by the Buccaneers. He was unable to complete the required conditioning test when he was with the Redskins in 2010.
Jose Molina
The catcher comes in at 250 pounds as he gets ready to start his 13th season in Major League Baseball. In 1,787 career at bats, the slow-footed Molina has just three triples.
B.J. Raji
Raji is one of the fattest players in the NFL at 337 pounds.
Shaun Rogers
Rogers has used his large frame to his advantage. The defensive tackle has made three Pro Bowls in his 11-year career.
Pablo Sandoval
The Giants third baseman has been productive since signing with San Francisco, despite his 262 pound frame. His size has earned him the nickname “Kung Fu Panda.”
Vince Wilfork
The defensive lineman weighs a whopping 325 pounds. Even at that size, he returned an interception 28 yards against the Chargers last season.
C.C Sabathia
At six-foot-seven, Sabathia comes in at 290 pounds. The pitcher struggled down the stretch of the 2011 season and many feared his weight may have been the cause.
