What started with a single tweet has escalated into a Twitter battle betweern WWE Champion CM Punk and Grammy award winning Hip Hop artist Chris Brown.

Phillip Jack Brooks, known to his fans as CM Punk, first lashed out at Brown on Monday, Feb. 20, tweeting, I would like @chrisbrown to fight somebody that can defend themselves, to his more than 650,000 followers. The tweet was reference to the night several years ago when Brown repeatedly punched Rihanna. The event has recently been brought back into the public eye after Brown performed at the 2012 Grammys, the full police report detailing the night in question was released online, and Rihanna and Chris Brown were featured on each others' recently released tracks. The troubling series of events have confused Rihanna's fans, as Chris Brown remains defiant to criticism on Twitter and Rihanna stays silent.

Brown quickly shot back at CM Punk in a since-deleted tweet that read, @CMpunk needs more followers. He's such a leader! Not to mention the roids hes on has made it utterly impossible for him pleasure a women. Brown added, @CMpunk contact my assistant and I'll have em send u an autographed pic for my biggest FAN!!!

CM Punk responded to Brown, posting a video at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, accompanied by the words, This must be said. (Full text of CM Punk's video below).

Brown quickly responded to the video, tweeting, @cmpunk the video u just posted was cute! It's so funny how defensive u are.

He continued in a second tweet, accusing the wrestler of piggybacking on the controversy in order to gain publicity: And the fact that I really don't know who you are and could give a [expletive] is the funny part! I really hope this 15 minutes of fame is paying you for the long run becuz music last forever! Wrestlers come and go according to ratings!

Brown wasn't finished trash talking, and a third tweet read, I miss the real wrestlers! (Hacksaw Jim duggan, Brett the hitman heart, coco beware, rowdy roddy piper) #Notnopunks. THE ROCK #Notnopunks.

American model Adrianne Curry jumped into the fray, tweeting, I have no respect4woman beaters.

At around 10:30 p.m EST, Brown attempted to end the online discussion, tweeting, Note:today will be the last day I bring @cmpunk existence up! The confrontations that people continuously bring my way are very amusing. He added, Cuz honestly, that shit is too time consuming to argue wit every person who has their own issues to deal with!

Read the full text of MC Punk's video, in which he denies ever using drugs and challenges Chris Brown to a fight in the ring:

I never intended to include Chris Brown's name in one of my tweets to start controversy or to gain publicity or anything like that, and now that he's thrown accusations my way about using steroids I feel the need to reply so please allow me to retort. I'm a life-long drug free, straight-edge individual, so Chris and I come from two completely different worlds. I don't have a manager. I don't have a body guard--I don't need a body guard. I don't have an assistant. I have no need for a PR team to tell me what to tweet and when to delete tweets, and I don't hit women. Period. You see, in my world women are to be revered and respected, and I firmly believe that in this life there are consequences and repercussions for people's actions, and I don't think Chris has payed for what he's done. Picking up trash on the side of the highway does not make amends for repeatedly striking a woman in the face and sending her to a hospital. So Chris wants to throw stones my way now and I say that's fine but puts some gloves on and get in the ring. I will choke you out, and I will make you feel as weak and as powerless and scared and alone as any woman who has had the misfortune of knowing a sad, cowardly little boy such as yourself, and all proceeds can go to a women's shelter of my choosing. If you wanna pick up more trash on the side of the highway to make some amends you should donate some more time, maybe tell kids exactly what happened, what you did isn't right, but I'm also a realist and I know that none of these things will happen because Chris Brown isn't a man. That's fine, and just know that someday, somewhere, somehow, somebody will put Chris Brown exactly where he belongs and honestly it doesn't have to be me, I would just really like it to be.
