Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was arrested on Wednesday night on charges of assaulting a South African businessman and his father-in-law in a restaurant the night before and then released on bail Mumbai.

His statement was recorded in the case by the Colaba police station. He had to furnish a surety bond of Rs 3000/-, reports said.
Saif landed himself in a royal mess after serious allegations of assault on a South African businessman and his father-in-law in an upscale restaurant in Mumbai on Tuesday night were lodged against him.
Saif reached Colaba police station during night after the summons and after remaining incommunicado, reports said.
A channel, however, reported that he surrendered at his lawyer's chamber.

Iqbal Sharma, who is a South African businessman, said he was assaulted and got a broken nose while his 68-year-old father-in-law was not spared as well as the actor rained blows on them and hurled abuses.
The case was registered against Khan in the Colaba police station under section 325 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly punching Iqbal Sharma and his father-in-law at Wasabi restaurant in Mumbai's Taj Hotel on Tuesday night.
The Mumbai Police quizzed Saif who was later quoted by a TV channel saying that he was himself assaulted and his friends were abused instead.
"I was hit, I defended myself," NDTV quoted him saying. He reportedly said the CCTV footage of the hotel will prove the truth.
Kareena was also present at the scene of the brawl, unconfirmed reports said, since the assaulted businessman (apparently not too aware about Bollywood actors) said he could not recognize the ladies and could identify only if they were produced before him.
Khan, along with Kareena and few other friends, were reportedly dining at the restaurant when he had a brawl with Iqbal Sharma.
Sharma was sitting at the adjoining table where Khan was dining.
Sharma reportedly went to Khan and asked him to lower his voice as the noise from his table was disturbing him.
He said when Saif did not stop they were moving to a different place and as they crossed each other at a passage Saif hurled abuses and started beating him up.
