It's National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

These actors and singers have spoken publicly about their eating disorders and are reported to have overcome them.

They are the lucky ones.

Celebrities who died from complications due to eating disorders include singer Karen Carpenter and French model Isabelle Caro. Caro died in November 2010. In March of that year, she said she weighed 93 pounds, according to her obituary in The New York Times.

The Eating Disorder Foundation estimates that 27 percent of girls from the ages of 12 to 18 have eating disorders, as do 31 percent of female college students. What's even worse is that girls as young as 10 are also prone to eating disorders.

Organizations such as the National Eating Disorders Association have tips for men, women and children. These tips include advice on how to become a critical viewer of the media and how to analyze advertisements.
