Apple's new HD iPad, the tablet formerly known as iPad 3, goes on sale March 16, but before you grab one, here's a quick primer on what you need to know beforehand. It's just called iPad or new iPad, and it will be the one on sale for $500 as the iPad 2 is now down to $400. Not that anyone would try to sell you the wrong iPad, but telling them apart at a glance is not easy. They are virtually identical. There's no new design to be found on the body itself except for a slightly larger camera hole in the back. Apple did that to accommodate the new iSight camera and its larger aperture that lets in more light for better quality images.

That's actually one of the biggest changes form the iPad 2 to the new iPad because Apple didn't overhaul the device. It didn't need to, and it seems to have paid off because demand is so high it seems Apple has run out of parts just to fill pre-orders. The pricing scheme will be the same as it was for iPad 2, with the 16 gigabyte Wi-Fi only iPad starting at $500 and the 32 and 64 gigabyte versions going for $600 and $700. If you're looking at the cellular models, they are $630, $730 and $830 for the same amounts of storage.
