Britain's Got Talent showed us a performer who defied our expectations in Susan Boyle. The reality show did it again Saturday with Jonathan Antoine.

The 17-year-old Antoine, a shy, overweight teen with shoulder-length curly hair who said he has been battling his size since I could remember, wowed the audience as he sung Andrea Bocelli's and Celine Dion's The Prayer with singing partner Charlotte Jaconelli.

Jonathan said he has had to withstand his share of bullies over his appearance and Charlotte said she was always there to stick up for her friend.

Just when you think things couldn't get any worse, host Simon Cowell said into the ear of fellow judge Amanda Holden as Jonathan and Charlotte walked onto the Britain's Got Talent stage as the camera panned to audience members with bitter looks on their faces.

But as soon as Jonathan Antoine belted out his first notes, the crowd erupted in cheers and a standing ovation followed.

Oh my god, Simon said with incredulity.

It's not very often that you can move an audience like that. You sing beautifully together and it was world class, said judge Alesha Dixon.

Jonathan Anotine's performance evoked memories of Susan Boyle, the frumpy Scottish church singer who brought the Britain's Got Talent crowd to its knees with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables.

A pop voice and an opera voice together - it was incredible, said fellow judge David Williams of Jonathan and Charlotte.

You are unbelievable. Seriously, you have an outstandingly good voice. Jonathan, you are a future star, Cowell said.

But Cowell said he questioned whether Charlotte is going to hold [Jonathan] back, but Jonathan Antoine stuck up for his singing partner.

Well, we've come here as a duo and we're going to stay a duo, he said as the crowd cheered.

You know, my head here would say to you Jonathan, 'Dump her,' Cowell said to strong boos. And then my heart would say there was something kind of magical at moments together as well so I'm going to say yes to the two of you moving on in the competition.
