Season three of the Vampire Diaries is heating up, but an upcoming episode is bound to cool things down when Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) go under water.

As we previously mentioned at the beginning of the month, the Vampire Diaries was looking to cast Elena Gilbert's deceased parents, Miranda and Grayson. Fans of the Vampire Diaries know that Elena's adoptive parents died in a car crash when they accidentally drove off Mystic Fall's Wickery Bridge after picking Elena up from a late night party.

E! online reported that Elena's parents will likely be coming to the show in a flashback, something that the series is known for. The casting call required that the actors auditioning must be willing to take SCUBA lessons.

MTV's Hollywood Crush blog is now confirming that a flashback will take place to the night where Elena lost her parents on the Wickery Bridge. The same night that Elena first encountered Stefan.

In order to prepare for the upcoming episode, the shows stars will be doing some scuba training. I didn't [do the SCUBA training] yet, Wesley told Hollwood Crush at the PaleyFest earlier this month. I actually think I am going to go get certified. I haven't read the episode. I don't know what's going to happen. I'm actually learning things from you guys! joked Wesley.

Wesley has been taking some diving lessons or whatever in preparation for the underwater scenes, but it turns out that Dobrev is already a pro. Back in 2010, the actress went SCUBA diving in the Great Barrier Reef, and received her SCUBA certification card from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors just a few months ago.

It's one of the coolest things that I've done, Dobrev said of her certification. It's really cool to finally get to use it for work, not just for pleasure. So it'll be fun.

Besides already being a skilled SCUBA diver, Dobrev will have to help out Wesley because he is afraid of the water, she revealed.

I'm terrible underwater, Wesley admitted. So it's actually very stressful.

No word on when the episode is coming, but these teasers sound like it will be a good one.
