It seems Samsung enthusiasts have been so wrapped up in Samsung S3 rumors that they failed to consider the Galaxy Note as the S2's sequel, which is what Samsung's UK VP considers it to be.

The evolution in S2 is already here, it's there, it's Galaxy Note and that is a really strong device for Samsung, globally as well as in the UK, Simon Stanford, VP of Samsung Telecommunications and Networks for Samsung UK and Ireland told CNET in an exclusive interview.

People don't have to have a tablet and smart phone -- it can be done all in one device -- which is exactly what people are using it for, Stanford added.

He explains that the Galaxy Note is an all in one device, which he now uses instead of his Galaxy S2 and his tablet.

The Galaxy Note has been heralded for its big and beautiful 5.3-inch AMOLED display, which Stanford says is perfect for gaming, video and even PowerPoint and Excel presentations. I can edit those, look at them and share them, he says.

Responding to the phone's gigantic size, Stanford told CNET that mobile users are generally making fewer phone calls. What we are finding is that more people are using more data and using voice less, he says. This particular device [the Note] allows you to use all the data you can.

With no official release date confirmed by Samsung, Galaxy fans are speculating the theoretical S3 to be released anytime between now and the summer. Most fans are unconvinced that the Galaxy Note is the actual sequel of the S2.

The S2 was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last year, and then launched in April, which spurred rumors that the S3 would be out at the same time. But Samsung has said that Galaxy enthusiasts shouldn't hold their breath for a March release, as the phone is likely to come in the middle of the year, closer to the summer, according to a report obtained by News Sizzle.

The success of the S2 is said to be one of the biggest reasons behind the S3's delay; however, experts in the industry say the delay has also been caused by the slow roll out of the Ice Cream Sandwich software on the S2.

We haven't confirmed any successor to the S2. The S2 is a very, very popular device. It's the number one selling Android device in the UK and has been now for coming up to a year... Whatever the [actual] successor to the Galaxy S2 is will only help develop that further, Stanford told CNET

Any successor to the S2 we will announce at a separate Samsung event when it's nearer commercial release -- if [there is any successor], he adds.
