Florida Democrats' Video Responds To Republican Allen West's 'Communist' Allegations

The Florida Democratic released a video Friday titled Sh** Allen West Says that slams some of the most contentious and inaccurate statements made by Florida Republican, who earlier this week told almost 100 of his constituents that he's heard that as many as 80 Democratic members of Congress are members of the Communist Party.

The video, set to the 2006Gnarls Barkley alternative hip hop single Crazy, features various clips of television pundits and reporters commenting on Wests' previous remarks. The freshman representative, who represents Florida's 22nd congressional district, has become known for his series of deeply conservative and often inaccurate remarks that are typically targeted toward President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.

West came under attack this week after telling almost 100 Floridians in a Palm City town hall event where he taunted the president before alleging that about 80 House Democrats are members of the Communist Party.

I really wish that standing here before you was Allen West and President Obama. We could have a simple discussion. But that ain't never gonna happen, West said, The Palm Beach Post initially reported.

When an audience member called out, Why not? West reportedly exclaimed in a mocking tone Cause he [President Obama] was too scared!

The comments, which West did not appear to have any factual evidence to support, invoked the ire of Congressional Progressive Caucus, whom West appeared to be targeting.

Calling fellow Members of Congress 'communists' is reminiscent of the days when Joe McCarthy divided Americans with name-calling and modern-day witch hunts that don't advance policies to benefit people's lives, Reps. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., and Keith Ellison, D-Minn., wrote in the statement on Wednesday.

West's reelection campaign manager Tim Edson, who appears to share the candidate's penchant for name-calling, told The Daily Caller the remarks were taken out of context.

One stupid reporter with a local publication misquoted the entire thing, and they all jumped on one press account without verifying, Edson said. It's all typical west wing marching orders for their friends in the press.

The new video makes reference to some of West's notorious accusations, calling him out for calling President Obama a dictator, describing Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla. as vile and alleging that the notorious Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbals would be proud of the Democratic Party.

As a Tea Party favorite, West has been mentioned as a possible Republican vice presidential candidate in the upcoming election. However, his polarizing persona makes it extremely unlikely the congressman would be a viable option for the nomination.

In January West announced he would switch districts and instead run for reelection in Florida's new 18th congressional districts, a move that will boost his chances for a win. West's current 22nd district, already Democratic-leaning, is expected to include even more Democratic constituents under Florida's redistricting plan. Meanwhile, the new 18th district is home to a Republican-leaning constituency.
