Sales of Mercedes-Benz cars globally were up 13.2 percent to 113,300 units in June compared with the same month in previous year, according to statement released by Daimler AG on Monday. The company states this record sales as best ever June performance in its history.

In the first six months of 2010, Mercedes-Benz sales were up by 15 percent to 556,700 units against 483,300 units in the first half of 2009.

The company attributes the record growth in sales to strong demand for luxury brand cars in the two of the leading markets for automobiles globally, China and the US.

“In June we succeeded in boosting our sales by a double-digit percentage for the eighth time in a row. Compared to last year, our sales were up in every region, the main growth drivers were the E- and S-Class,” said Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars.

"We are also in an excellent position to do well in the months ahead and plan to continue Mercedes-Benz's success with a significant increase in the third quarter," Schmidt said in a statement.
