Fans have been waiting a long time for Blizzard's upcoming Diablo 3 release, and now they might be able to gain some insight as to why the process has taken so long. The company has released its latest Developer Diary video, featuring Game Director Jay Wilson, Art Director Christian Lichtner and Lead Software Engineer Jason Regier.

The interview was filmed a year ago when developers were still in the alpha testing period of Diablo 3.

All the quests are in place, said Wilson when asked about the action RPG's development stage at the time. Some areas are kind of confusing and some areas don't have enough events, so we're still creating content.

Initially the team's goal was to release Diablo 3 at the end of 2011, Wilson also said. However, fans can expect a complete revamp with this third installment of the franchise.

We completely overhauled the way that we author all of the skills, Regier said. That meant that we pretty much started over on everything and redid it all from scratch.

Blizzard announced the next release in the trilogy on March 15, two full months before the game is to be released. There have been talks about a possible console release, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Since the announcement, Blizzard has revealed information regarding the Inferno monster Demon Hunters and the Barbarian playable class.

Wilson stressed that above all else, having fun is the most important component in crafting Diablo 3.

If you play your game constantly, you have no choice but to make it fun, he said.
