Amazon seems to be just as excited about the new God of War release as the franchise's fans. The online megastore published the game's product page a day early, according to Game Informer. On April 19th Sony officially announced the action platformer's upcoming fourth release.

God of War: Ascension, which will be available for the PlayStation 3, is said to be a prequel to the original, taking place before Kratos became the Ghost of Sparta. Todd Papy, the game's director, revealed the new God of War trailer on the Sony PlayStation official blog on April 19th, teasing another glimpse at the game at the end of the month.

I'm sure your mouth is watering for more, but unfortunately I have to leave you with that for now, he wrote when referring to the trailer. On April 30th Sony will host an event to be live streamed that will reveal more details about Ascension.

The rest of the plot outline seems pretty vague, but the Amazon listing gave a brief look at what the game will entail.

Join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family in the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far.

The Sony PlayStation official Facebook page also hints that the game takes place before the others in the series. The page's cover photo has been changed to a promotional tease for the game, with an image of Kratos and the adventure combat game's title sprawled in the center.

Before he was a god, he was a man, reads the caption underneath with emphasis on the latter part.

Earlier in April Sony began to drop some clues about the game via Facebook, posting an image with the text: Will Vengeance Bring Redemption? 4/19/12. It turns out the staff over at Forbes were right when they predicted that this was in reference to the new God of War game.

Kratos is all about vengeance, even if he has already killed pretty much every single named character in the world of Greek Mythology, wrote Dave Their for Forbes on April 13th, predicting the upcoming release.

The action adventure video game was originally released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. Centering on the theme of Greek mythology, protagonist Kratos seeks to stop the God of War, Ares, from destroying the city of Athens. With the overarching theme of vengeance, Kratos seeks to find the legendary Pandora's Box to stop Ares.

The sequel was released in 2007, and follows Kratos after he defeats Ares in the previous game. Taking on the role of God of War after his triumph, Kratos is on a quest to find the Sisters of Fate to alter his destiny. In the third game, Kratos and his allies storm Mount Olympus in an attempt to kill Zeus, who previously betrayed him, and the Olympian Gods.

God of War: Ascension is to be released in 2013, but no official release date has been announced at this time. Check out the trailer below.
