Borussia Dortmund claimed their first ever league and cup double with a memorable 5-2 victory over rivals Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal final.

A hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski, together with a strike from Shinji Kagawa and a penalty from Mats Hummels saw Dortmund get the win over a disconsolate Bayern side, who replied with goals from Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Having pipped Bayern to the Bundesliga crown by eight points, in doing so amassing a record points haul, Jurgen Klopp's young charges went into the game full of confidence. Especially given that Dortmund had come out on top in the last four meetings between the sides.

And Dortmund got off to the best possible start with a goal after just three minutes at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. A poor touch defensively allowed Jakub Blaszczykowski to get behind the defense. The Polish wideman touched the ball off to Shinji Kagawa who finished left-footed into an unguarded net.

But it was not long before Bayern was back on level terms. As Mario Gomez and Roman Weidenfeller both raced to get to a through ball first, the Bayern striker just got a touch to the ball ahead of his opponent before being tripped by Dortmund's keeper. The referee having no choice but to point to the spot. Arjen Robben, the man who crucially missed from the spot in the league meeting between the sides last month, showed the courage to step up and fire the ball low and hard into the bottom right corner.

But Dortmund went back in front with a penalty of their own four minutes before the break. Jerome Boateng made a poor desperate challenge to bring down Kevin Grosskreutz, giving the referee the simple decision of awarding the spot kick. Mats Hummels was the man to step forward and the center-back calmly side-footed the ball low into the left corner.

And right before half-time Dortmund took a massive step toward victory by making it 3-1. Kagawa played an inch-perfect through ball to find Lewandowski's run and the Poland international squeezed his shot low under Manuel Neuer.

The result was then effectively put beyond doubt with Lewandowski's second in the 58th minute. Kagawa was involved again as he fed Grosskreutz, who knocked the ball across to Dortmund's top scorer in space at the back post and Lewandowski took a touch before confidently firing the ball into the back of the net.

Bayern were able to pull a goal back 15 minutes from time, courtesy of a sublime strike from Franck Ribery. The Frenchman displayed some lovely touches on the edge of the area to find half a yard of space before firing a left-footed shot low into the corner past Mitchell Langerak, who had replaced the injured Weidenfeller in the first-half.

But if Bayern thought that the goal gave them any hope it was soon extinguished as Dortmund got their fifth goal of the match with nine minutes remaining.

Neuer made a hash of collecting a low cross along the turf, which allowed Lukasz Piszczek to claim the ball. The right back then chipped the ball into the middle where his fellow-countryman Lewandowski was waiting to rise and head home into the empty net to complete his hat-trick.

And that's how it finished as Dortmund rounded off a memorable season in style. For Bayern, they are left with the task of trying to recover in the next seven days as they seek to win the Champions League at home against Chelsea.
