Lamar Odom Trade Rumors: Knicks At 'Top Of His List'

Lamar Odom would like to join the New York Knicks this offseason, according to a report.

Odom, who is currently a member of the Dallas Mavericks, would be interested in joining the Knicks as a free agent, according to ESPN.

A source close to Odom said that the Knicks would be on the top of his list because he knows he could be comfortable playing in the Big Apple.

Lamar is big on being comfortable, the source said. And New York is somewhere he can be comfortable.

A move to New York would also likely be appreciated by his reality television star wife Khloe, who'd likely benefit from filming her show in New York compared to Dallas.

The former Sixth Man of the Year could add some versatility to the Knicks bench, but he needs to get out of his contract with the Mavericks first. Odom had a miserable year last year with the Mavericks and it's doubtful that the team is interested in keeping him for next season.

The Mavericks will likely try to trade Odom first, but if no suitable trading partners are out there, then the team will likely release him. Odom, who averaged career lows of 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game last season, would likely generate interest from the Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, and a few other NBA teams.

The big issue will be whether the Knicks will have room to sign Odom. New York has little cap room to work with this offseason and has to deal with its own free agents such as Jeremy Lin, JR Smith, Steve Novak, and Landry Fields. Odom could be an option if he is willing to take a severe pay cut from the $8.2 million he made this past season with the Mavericks, otherwise the Knicks won't have the money to acquire him.
