Update: Commerce Department spokeswoman Jennifer Friedman said on Monday that Bryson suffered a seizure and has been given medication to treat the condition.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce John Bryson is suspected of being responsible for several nonlethal car accidents over the weekend.

According to a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Bryson drove his Lexus into another car in the California city of San Gabriel on Saturday, striking the car a second time as he drove away. Bryson allegedly was involved in another crash in the nearby city of Rosemead soon thereafter, following which authorities found the commerce secretary alone and unconscious behind the wheel, the statement said.

Passengers in the other cars reportedly sustained only minor injuries.

The investigation is in its preliminary stages, the sheriff's department said. At this point in time, there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collisions. All parties were cooperative with law enforcement.
