Concern over a zombie apocalypse may be dying down, but there may be a new threat to worry about: vampires.

A man with vampire teeth is suspected by the San Diego Police Department of beating a homeless man Monday, NBC San Diego reported.

The vampire teeth attack is said to have occurred outside a pharmacy around 6 a.m. Monday local time.

The victim, described as a 55-year-old homeless man, was kicked in the head and ribs and was bleeding from the attack, NBC San Diego reported. The vampire-toothed assailant also threatened to kill the victim, according to the police report.

The man with vampire teeth was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with assault.

Rob Davenport, a commenter on NBC San Diego's website, wondered aloud what the world is coming to.

Last week Zombies... this week Homeless Vampires... Next week flamboyantly gay Werewolves...., Davenport wrote in a post that had 43 likes as of Tuesday afternoon.

Commenter Jason Atttebury is one of the conspiracy theorists who think the zombie attacks and the vampire teeth incident are part of a larger plan.

The Mayans predicted this. The virus is being spread through illegal narcotics. Roughly 3 percent of the population will be infected and gain undead attributes, Attebury wrote. Once the disease has gained a foothold the infection will be spread from any transfer of bodily fluids. That is, if you survive the attack. You have been warned.

The vampire teeth attack comes after a number of incidents that caused concern over a zombie apocalypse.

The most disturbing of those attacks was the one perpetrated in Miami over Memorial Day weekend by Rudy Eugene, who was allegedly under the influence of bath salts when he attacked Ronald Poppo on the MacArthur Causeway and tore off 75 percent of Poppo's face with his mouth.

Poppo, who was homeless, is listed in critical but stable condition.

The Miami cannibal attack, as it was called, turned out to be a misnomer; an autopsy of Eugene revealed there was no human flesh in his system.

Just days after the May 26 attack on Poppo, 21-year-old engineering student and Maryland resident Alexander Kinyua was charged with murdering and eating the brain and heart of 37-year-old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyel-Kodie.

The victim in that case lived with Kinyua, a Morgan State University student who allegedly confessed to the cannibal attack.
