Motorola Droid X smartphone launch hits a new high with a complete sell out from the stores on day one. Droid X is being rated by several analysts as a top contender to replace iPhone 4G, which has been facing bad reviews and other technical glitches.
If Droid X is compared with an iPhone 4G and other major smartphones in the market, Droid X has some features that match the best smartphones in the market today.
Droid X has a 4.3-inch (480x854) display screen which is equal to the display screen possessed by HTC Evo 4G. The iPhone has a display of 3.5-inch, while other smartphones have a display below 4-inch.
As it comes with the latest Google’s Android 2.1 Operating Sysytem, which is expected to be upgraded to newer version soon after the release of the newer OS platform. The iPhone on the other hand, uses iOS 4, the latest OS of Apple.
Droid X uses Texas Instruments OMAP processor which is used in most of Nokia’s N-series range. Also some of the other devices that use TI OMAP processor include Samsung devices, Palm Pre, Open Pandora, Touch Book and Sony Ericsson Satio.

Droid X TI OMAP processor gives a speed of 1 GHz which matches the fastest smartphone processors in the market. Apple iPhone 4 uses Apple A4 1GHz processor while HTC Droid Incredible, HTC Evo 4G and Google Nexus One use Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.
When it comes to memory, Droid X has 8GB flash memory and 512 MB RAM memory which is expandable up to 32GB similar to Droid Incredible, whereas Apple iPhone 4 has internal memory of up to 32GB. HTC Evo 4G has 1GB flash memory and 512MB of RAM (expandable up to 32GB with microSD).
The camera of Droid X gives a huge 8 mega-pixel (MP) of HD video capture and playback with mechanical shutter. Even HTC Evo 4G and Droid Incredible offers camera with 8 MP, but Apple iPhone has a 5 MP camera similar to Google Nexus One.
Verizon’s Droid X weighs 5.47 ounce which is quite heavy compared to other smartphones in the market. The multi-tasking capabilities of Droid X are amazing as users can switch to 8 apps at once in the smartphone. Also as Google has expanded its apps close to 70,000, this smartphone can access all the apps Google offers.
Also Droid X smartphone has video recording speed of 720p at 24 frames per second. Other features of Droid X includes Bluetooth, supported audio formats like EVRC/AMR/MIDI/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/MP3/WMA/QCELP/EVRC-B(4GV)/AMR-NB, supported video formats like H263, MPEG4, WMV, H264 and text and video messaging with threaded messaging. The smartphone also comes with blockbuster mobile app, integrated Google, Exchange, Facebook, Myspace and Twitter contacts.
Push email support of Gmail and Exchange and Yahoo are included along with the support of IMAP and POP, MSN Hotmail and AOL Mail packages. It sports aGPS capable of E911 emergency location/sGPS. Incredibly, the smartphone also features a HDMI port.
