A bomb planted by the Taliban has destroyed 22 NATO fuel tankers in northern Afghanistan, according to reports.

The tankers, which were designed to carry fuel and other supplies from Uzbekistan to coalition forces in the southern part of Afghanistan, were attacked in a pre-dawn raid which created a massive fireball.

Since it was early in the morning, there were not a lot of people around. Otherwise, it could have caused a lot more casualties,'' a local intelligence official told the BBC.
