Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies center and member of the Spanish national basketball team, provided bulletin board material for Team USA when he said the 2012 U.S. basketball team wouldn't stand a chance against 1992's Dream Team.

The 2012 squad vs. Dream Team debate has been a lively comparison, with Kobe Bryant saying this year's team could beat the Dream Team and Dream Team members laughing off the claims.

But Gasol's two cents are sure to stoke the fire of Team USA, considering the Spanish center isn't an American. To make matters worse for Gasol and the rest of Spain, Team USA squares off against Spain today.

On a bad day for the '92 team, the current team would lose by just 15 or 20 points against them, Gasol said, according to basketball source Hoops Hype.

Gasol's words on the Team USA vs. Dream Team debate set off a firestorm of controversy on Twitter as users to lashed out at the Grizzlies center and member of Spain's national team.

Marc Gasol. You silly, silly, smelly idiot. Why would you talk sh-- about an all-star team hours before you play them? Team USA will go #HAM, opined @J43oftheFTP.

wtf does Marc Gasol kno bout Team USA?!?! he on Spain!!...why yall even listenin to this clown, said Jake Stephens.

I hope Marc Gasol gets banged on tonight for inadvertently coming at team USA, wrote @The_Juice_15.

Other Twitter users sided with Gasol in the Team USA vs. Dream Team debate.

Marc Gasol wasn't lying tho... This years Team USA would get smacked by the Dream Team easily, said @PaanyeWest.

Marc Gasol speaking the truth. Still probably not a good idea to motivate this team. Can't wait for US v. Spain today on ESPN2! wrote @daaaabulls.

Hate all you want, Marc Gasol is right! exclaimed Mark C. Volain.

The Team USA vs. Dream Team debate heated up after 2012 squad member and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said earlier this month the current team would dismantle the 1992 Dream Team.

While Team USA has the likes of Bryant, LeBron James, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, the 1992 Dream Team was packed with superstars as well, including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

Bryant's comments drew laughs from Jordan.

For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done, Jordan said, according to the Associated Press.
