Apple released "OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion," the latest version of its mobile operating system last week, and as per recent reports, the new OS has indeed managed to get the initial popularity among millions of Apple fans around the world.

At a time when scores of Mac users flooded the App Store to purchase and install the newest release of the Apple desktop operating system onto their devices, there have been concerns among users about the software compatibility, especially for those using jailbreak tools. This is because, as Redmond Pie noted, whenever a new version of iOS or OS X comes out, "it always makes us wonder whether or not it will break anything that is vital to the jailbreak process."

However, the iPhone Dev Team came forward to resolve the issue and confirmed via its official blog last week that the popular jailbreak tool Redsn0w is compatible with the Mountain Lion.

Users must note that the Redsn0w (version 0.9.14b2) supports devices and firmware that have also been supported by Absinthe untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1, which was released in May. The supported devices include the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad 1, Apple TV 2G and the iPod touch third and fourth generation on iOS 5.1.1.

Below are the steps, courtesy of Redmond Pie, to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 compatible devices using Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 on a Mac running OS X Mountain Lion.

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.14b2, unzip the contents of the compressed file and locate the executable application.

Step 2: To run Redsn0w for the very first time on Mountain Lion, you will have to bypass the new security features by Ctrl-Click on the icon and then selecting Open from the new menu. The iPhone Dev Team explained:

"Until we start using an official developer ID for it (!), you'll need to use the new Ctrl-Click-Open security bypass the first time you run it after downloading."

Step 3: Now connect your device to the computer via the supplied USB cable. Make sure that the correct device is being displayed before you select the Jailbreak button from the Redsn0w interface.

Step 4: Place your device into DFU mode by following the on screen instructions and then allow Redsn0w to complete the process. Once it's done, Cydia will be installed onto your device.
