Jessica Ennis has become one of the biggest stories at the 2012 Olympics.

The 26-year-old took home the gold medal in the women's heptathlon this past weekend. The native Brit took first place in front of her home country fans, totaling 6,955 points. Of the seven events, Ennis finished first in the 100 meter hurdles, as well as the 200 meter and 800 meter races.

She did so well in the first six legs of the competition that Ennis was almost guaranteed to win before running in the last event. Lilli Schwarzkopf of Germany won silver and Russia's Tatyana Chernova came in third place.

After missing the 2008 Olympics because of injury, Ennis felt it was even more important for her to perform well because the Games are being held in London.

"I told myself at the start that I'm only going to have one moment to do this in front of a crowd in London and I just wanted to give them a good show."

Ennis's performance was the best ever for a British athlete in the heptathlon. She broke Denise Lewis' record of 6,831 points.
