Since Google announced its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade, endless leaks have surfaced throughout the Internet. However, the most recent alleged leak to appear allows users to install the Jelly Bean software on Samsung's Galaxy S3, the company's flagship smartphone of 2012.

Samsung news source Sam Mobile claims they have received the first firmware for the Galaxy S3 based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. According to this source, the Jelly Bean release date for this device will roll out at the end of this month or the beginning of next month. The website is also giving users the chance to test the new software update ROM, warning that this is a "pre-release" version and it is not the official software that will launch.

It is also important to note that owners will lose their warranty once the ROM is performed. According to Sam Mobile, the firmware code for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is I9300XXDLG4 with a build date of July 31. There are a few new features and changes that are present in Jelly Bean that have been found through this build, which are as follows:

- A new clock in the notification bar

- A function called "Dormant Mode"

- Google Now can be accessed by touching the Google Search Widget

- New Live wallpapers

- Palm swipe allows users to take a screenshot

- Reboot into "Safe Mode"

There are some reported issues with this ROM, however, such as the internal SD card formatting preventing some apps from being installed. Be sure to back up information and data before attempting the installation.

Sam Mobile also stresses the fact that this is a leak and it is not the official download. The website advises that users wait the "15 days" until the alleged official release, when the Jelly Bean update is believed to be launched via KIES or an over-the-air update.

But for those who want to get their hands on the software now, complete the following steps to install the Flash version, which could be useful for developers especially.

- Make sure that you have the original ROM before attempting Flash.

- Unzip the file.

-Open Odin 1.85.

- Restart phone in download mode (Home+power+vol down).

- Connect phone and wait until you get a yellow sign in Odin.

- Add CODE_I9300XXDLG4_11164_REV00_eng_mid_noship.tar.md5 to PDA

- Make sure re-partition is not ticked.

- Start Flash, sit back and wait a few minutes.

- Once the phone has booted, you'll probably get into a boot loop.

- Remove the battery and then put it back again.

- Boot into recovery mode (Home+power+vol up).

- Choose to wipe/factory reset. (WARNING: This will erase your data).

- Reboot.

It was also recently reported that the upgrade will come to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 later this year. Samsung is also expected to roll the operating system out to more of its higher-end devices in the forthcoming months.

It was initially believed that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 2 would ship with Jelly Bean out-of-the-box, but it now seems more likely that the device will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
