The BSE Sensex rose 0.2 percent in early trade on Tuesday, with Reliance Industries leading the rise, taking cues from strong Asian markets.
The 30-share BSE index was up 0.2 percent at 18,056.57 points, with 26 components advancing. It had opened 0.1 percent lower.
The 50-share NSE index was up 0.1 percent at 5,424.40 points.
