These days with the onslaught of news regarding the iPhone and iPad, it's easy to forget that Apple also sells computers.

However, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company announced a new array of desktop machines that include touch-screen gesture control, one with 12 processing cores and a 27-inch LED screen.

Apple will sell the 27-inch LED screen for approximately $999. It will have a 16:9 edge-to-edge glass display on an aluminum stand with an adjustable hinge. It also features the in-plane switching technology which makes way for a better viewing angles. It also is well built for video conferencing with an integrated video camera, power charger, connectivity port for audio and video outlets and three USB ports.

"With its massive 2560 x 1440 resolution, the new 27-inch LED Cinema Display is a perfect fit with our powerful new Mac Pro, and it gives iMac users an easy way to double their screen real estate," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of product marketing, said in a statement.

With the arrival of the 27-inch screen, Apple also said it will stop selling the 24-inch and 30-inch screens. Those will be available while supplies last, an Apple spokesperson said.

Apple hopes the screen will complement the new Mac Pro and iMac line of products. The Mac Pro features 12 processing cores, which Apple said will offer performance 50 percent faster than its predecessors.

"The new Mac Pro is the most powerful and configurable Mac we've ever made," Schiller said in a statement. The reason for the Mac Pro's boosted performance is the quad-core and 6-core Intel Xeon processors, which run at speeds of up to 3.33 GHz. It will be available in August for $2,499.

Along with the Mac Pro, Apple has updated and revamped its iMac line. Both the iMac and Mac Pro will feature touch-screen technology, formerly popularized on Apple's iPhone and iPad devices. The Magic Trackpad, as Apple is calling it, will allow for the familiar touch scrolling and zooming. It also will allow for rotation and swiping, which will allow users to scroll through a collection of web pages and photos at a time.

The 21.5 inch iMac is as low as $1,199 while the 27.5-inch iMac is $1,499. Both are available now.
