Apple was charged with a new lawsuit that alleges its flagship product iPad overheats too quickly and stops working in sunlight and hot weather conditions.

The case was filed in Federal Court in Oakland, California on July 23, and is seeking class action status, apart from unspecified damages.

Apple began to ship the iPad in early April and the product was a runway hit. Apple had sold over 3.3 million iPads in second quarter, generating revenues in excess of $2 billion.

Apple's iPad is a multimedia tablet device with a 9.7-inch multi-touch display. The tablet runs the same operating system as the iPhone and iPod touch, and sale price starts as low as $499.
