Indian Vodafone-Essar mobile communications group has launched its latest generation eco-friendly solar powered mobile phone priced at around 1,500 rupees.

Apart from this, another product is also available in the Indian Market, which is Samsung's Solar Guru (Guru E1107), that costs 2,799 rupees.

Vodafone’s solar phone was launched on Wednesday by UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon George Osborne MP and Marten Pieters, MD and CEO, Vodafone Essar Ltd., at the Vodafone store in Fort, Mumbai.

The phone, called VF 247, is targeted at India’s huge rural mobile phone market, which is currently witnessing a boom.

It will help to get over unstable electricity supply problem being faced in many areas in India, hopes the manufacturer.

The VF 247 solar powered phone automatically gets charged on exposure to ambient sunlight. The phone charges also in a room, under normal daylight, which is ensured by the special inbuilt hardware and software, Sun Boost, which makes this device more user-friendly.
