Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor Corp. plans to voluntarily recall 215,000 of its compact cars and minivans in US due to faulty power steering, U.S National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
The targeted models include Mazda3 compact cars and Mazda5 minivans manufactured from April 2, 2007 through Nov 30, 2008. The cars are ailing with a condition whereby it suddenly loses power steering while the vehicle is being driven thus, increasing the possibility of a crash.
The automaker said it would begin to notify affected owners of the recall in September and send notices to all owners by February.
The Mazda recall stemmed from a customer complaint in the Japanese market in March 2008.
Mazda had earlier recalled 90,000 Mazda3 models in China and Japan in April 2010 due to misplaced oil hose near the radiator.
