Bank loans prov up 20.1 pct on Aug. 13: RBI

Bank loans rose 20.1 percent on year as of Aug. 13, provisional Reserve Bank of India data showed on Wednesday.

Deposits were up 14.1 percent from a year earlier, according to the data. The final data for the 2 weeks to Aug. 13 will be released on Friday.

Indian banks' investments in government bonds in the Aug. 13 fortnight grew 0.54 percent to 14.52 trillion rupees, the RBI said.

Indian bank loans had risen 19.7 percent on year as of July 30, the Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement showed, while deposits were up 14 percent from a year earlier.
