Nokia has roped in Baywatch star Pamela Anderson to spice up its release of N8 smartphone.

It is rumored that Nokia is due to launch the phone by Sept. 30.

Nokia has committed the fortune of its N8 smartphone in the hands of Pamela Anderson and Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl fame, to star in a short film entitled "The Commuters" to be shot in London using the N8 camera. Two lucky fans will avail of an opportunity to act alongside the stars in lead roles.

The short feature will be directed by the McHenry Brothers, who have just finished filming their first full-length animated movie, Jackboots on Whitehall, starring Ewan McGregor and Rosamund Pike.

The filming will begin on Sept. 20.

Nokia is pitching on N8's 12 megapixel camera capabilities. The strategy seems to be focused on a single most dominant feature of the smartphone rather than on the OS and applications that make a smartphone successful.

However, one has to wait and see if Pamela can be the lifeguard who will salvage Nokia's fortunes from drowning.
