Sony has revealed its Google TV prototype that uses Android 2.1 juice at IFA 2010 in Berlin while Scandinavian company Lava introduced its Android 1.5 based TV line-up.

Sony' Google TV set uses a 46-inch Sony Internet HDTV, powered by 1.2 GHz Intel Atom CE4100 and uses the Chrome browser which supports Flash 10.1.

Sony is Google's official partner for the Google TV. The TV allows one to simultaneously use Google TV while a regular TV show is being watched, by masking the original TV show.

Also a Scandinavian company Lava introduced an Android TV lineup. The sets come in 42-inch, 47-inch and 52-inch models with price starting from 2,500 euros. The models run on Android 1.5 OS and Samsung 833 MHz Cortex-A8 processor.

Though Lava is not a part of Google's official line-up of Google TV manufacturers that include Sony, Samsung and Logitech they have been able to customize the Android OS to create a TV interface.

The Lava models use a QWERTY keyboard/remote and uses webkit-based Android web browser. However, the App Market for the TV is a Lava proprietary creation and thus the number of apps is few.

The launch does speak of double standards as Google is closely controlling its Android-based TV at the OEM end rather than keeping it open-source.

Apple's release of Apple TV set-box has given the digital online content distribution a new boost and hence a flurry of devices. Google is hoping to replicate its Android success around smartphones in the television industry as well. Sony and Lava are just part of a later flood of Android based TV and associated peripherals and applications.
