India's July IIP up 13.8 percent, driven by capital goods industry

India's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) stands at 330.8, which is 13.8 percent higher as compared to the level in the month of July 2009, showed a government data released on Friday.

The cumulative growth for the period April-July 2010-11 stands at 11.4 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The Sectoral growth rates in July 2010 over July 2009 are 5.1 percent in basic goods, 63 percent in capital goods and 9.1 percent in intermediate goods. The consumer durables and consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 22.1 percent and 0.5 percent respectively, with the overall growth in consumer goods being 6.7 percent.

The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of July 2010 stand at 192.6, 360.1, and 244.1 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 9.7 percent, 15 percent and 3.7 percent as compared to July 2009.

The cumulative growth during April-July 2010-11 over the corresponding period of 2009-10 in the three sectors have been 10 percent, 12.2 percent and 5.2 percent respectively, which moved the overall growth in the General Index to 11.4 percent.

The industry group ‘machinery and equipment other than transport equipment’ have shown the highest growth of 49.4 percent, followed by 31.1 percent in ‘other manufacturing industries’ and 24.9 percent in ‘transport equipment and parts’.

On the other hand, the industry group ‘wood and wood products; furniture and fixtures’ have shown a negative growth of 9.4 percent followed by 2.1 percent in ‘beverages, tobacco and related products’.
