Unemployment in UK edged lower by 0.1 percent quarter-on quarter to 7.8 per cent, as the number of unemployed people fell by 8,000 to 2.47 million.
According to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday, the number of people aged 16 and above finding employment increased by 286,000 to 29.16 million in the quarter.
However, showing signs of faltering economic recovery, jobless claims increased by 2,300 to 1.47 million in August, the first monthly increase since January 2010.
The data showed employment rate increased to 70.7 percent from May to July 2010, up by 0.4 percent.
The quarterly increase in total employment was mainly driven by part-time workers, which increased by 166,000 on the quarter to reach 7.93 million, the highest figure since comparable records began in 1992, the report points out.

While employment increased by 221,000 to 15.61 million among men, employment for women increased by 65,000 to 13.55 million.
Decline in the number of students in the labor market by 107,000 kept the inactivity rate at 23.2 per cent, down 0.4 for the quarter, the report said.
With education sector recording largest quarterly fall of 11,000 vacancies drop, the total number of vacancies went down by 14,000 to 467,000 during May to July.
