One of the best ways to lose weight and be healthy is to stock up on fresh fruits and veggies and make them a large part of every meal and snack. Filled with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and water, fruits and veggies fill you up and give you quite the nutritional bang for your bite. In fact, studies show that high consumption of fruits and veggies can prevent cancer and lower blood pressure.

Although you may think of summer when it comes to the best fresh produce (strawberries, tomatoes and watermelon, oh my!), fall and winter are also a surprisingly tasty time to eat fresh. The in-season fruits and veggies for November are hearty, chock full of nutrition and darn delicious, and because they're in season, these guys are usually cheaper and easier to get fresher than out-of-season produce. Bonus!

Check out the below list for a few ideas of what to pick up the next time you're at the grocery store!

1. Avocado. Avocados are high in good, heart-healthy fats and are delicious in guacamole, on sandwiches, and in salads!

2. Bok choy. This Chinese cabbage is high in fiber and vitamins A, C and K. It's tasty in salads and soups!

3. Brussels sprouts. If you hated Brussels sprouts as a child, try them again. They are delicious roasted in the oven with just a little olive oil, salt and pepper!

4. Kiwi. This cute yet nutritionally dense fruit is high in vitamin C, E and potassium. It's the perfect 50-calorie snack!

5. Lemons. Often overlooked, lemons are high in vitamin C and are the perfect flavor compliments to many dishes, including chicken and fish. Also, try lemon juice in your water as a natural flavor enhancer!

6. Turnips. Consider swapping out potatoes for this starchy vegetable that has fewer calories than potatoes and is also a great source of vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, manganese, pantothenic acid and copper.

What's your favorite in-season fruit and veggie?
