The top pre-market NASDAQ stock market gainers are: Cypress Bioscience, SodaStream International, Joy Global, MannKind, Maxygen, First Solar, Corinthian Colleges, JA Solar Holdings, VIVUS, and Orexigen Therapeutics.

Cypress Bioscience, Inc. (CYPB) surged 12.35 percent to $6.46 in the pre-market trading. The company said it agreed to be acquired by Ramius V&O Acquisition LLC, an affiliate of Ramius LLC, and Royalty Pharma for $6.50 a share in cash.

Ramius will amend its existing tender offer to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Cypress common stock it does not already own at an increased price of $6.50 a share in cash. The transaction has a total equity value of about $255 million on a fully-diluted basis.

SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) improved 6.22 percent to $32.10 in the pre-market session.

Joy Global, Inc. (JOYG) jumped 4.97 percent to $84.20 in the pre-market trading. The company's fourth quarter profit was $146.3 million or $1.39 a share, up from $124 million or $1.20 a share last year. Sales rose 9 percent to $1.05 billion. Analysts had expected profit of $1.16 a share on revenue of $922.84 million.

Joy Global expects fiscal 2011 earnings of $5.00 to $5.30 a share and revenue of $3.9 billion to $4.1 billion. Street expects earnings of $4.79 a share on revenue of $3.86 billion. The company said it expects fiscal 2011 to be a year of increasing order rates and improving financial results. Increased production schedules should translate into top line growth.

MannKind Corp. (MNKD) climbed 4.61 percent to $8.85 in the pre-market session.

Maxygen, Inc. (MAXY) soared 4.32 percent to $4.19 in the pre-market trading.

First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) gained 2.63 percent to $140.64 in the pre-market session. The company said it expects full year 2011 earnings of $8.75 to $9.50 a share and sales of $3.7 billion to $3.9 billion. Analysts expect earnings of $8.60 a share on revenue of $3.63 billion.

First Solar said it plans to invest $1.0 billion to $1.1 billion of capital to nearly double production capacity by year-end 2012, to maintain existing capacity and to add infrastructure to support growth. First Solar expects to generate $1.0 billion to $1.1 billion of operating cash flow during 2011.

Corinthian Colleges Inc. (COCO) grew 1.83 percent to $4.45 in the pre-market trading.

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (JASO) increased 1.45 percent to $7 in the pre-market session. The company announced a partnership and supply agreement with tenKsolar, Inc. JA Solar will supply its high-efficiency 'SECIUM' solar cell technology for use in tenKsolar's RAIS rooftop array.

VIVUS Inc. (VVUS) rose 1.18 percent to $9.40 in the pre-market session.

Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. (OREX) moved up 1.00 percent to $9.10 in the pre-market trading.
