An Asian leopard attacked a 1st grader on Friday in a Wichita, Kansas zoo, reported CNN.

The youngster was on a field trip at the Sedgwick County zoo with his classmates from the Linwood Elementary. Early in the afternoon, he climbed over the first protective barrier of the Asian leopard enclosure. At this point, there is still a cage separating the child and the leopard.

Then, according to witness accounts, the leopard reached over the cage, grabbed the child’s head, and clawed his face. Two adults nearby quickly rushed over and beat the Asian leopard, which subsequently let the child go.

The child is expected to “be ok,” according to the county sheriff.
