Real Madrid kept their title hopes alive with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames to keep the gap with leaders Barcelona to eight points.

Even a much-changed Madrid proved too difficult for Bilbao as Kaka scored two from the spot before substitute Cristiano Ronaldo added Madrid's third. Fouls on Angel Di Maria in the area at the start of either half saw Kaka net both from the spot. Ronaldo then came on, midway through the second half, to score, adding gloss to the win.
