Luxury Car News: Audi announced that it is offering Google Earth in its new 2011 A8 model. This is the first time that Google Earth will be available in a production vehicle. The specially equipped car will be in showrooms in early 2010. Google is the anchor of Audi's commitment to bleeding edge multimedia technology.
The 2011 A8 features a multimedia-interface system that includes navigation, phone and audio data along with a high quality graphics processor that generates 3-D images. Various Google-provided services make it among the most predictive and user-friendly navigation systems on the market. The services initially will be available in selected markets and then expanded.
The Google-based service enables A8 owners (and families) to plan trips at home and then retrieve the trip routes from the car as needed. Additionally, users can search for points-of-interest directly from the A8's multimedia interface, which Audi calls the MMI. Results of search queries and other information are displayed on the 8-inch multimedia screen. Hookup is simple and done directly with either a mobile phone and Bluetooth or with a SIM card.
Audi and Google have worked extensively to bring these in-vehicle online services to market. A prototype of the collaboration's effort was introduced at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The 2011 Audi also features an 8-speed Tiptronic® gearbox. Audi also announced that further upgrades to its online-service package would be introduced in mid-2010. For more information, visitAudiUSA.com.
