Total job advertisements in Australia, including those in newspapers and on the internet, declined 7.5% month-on-month in April, following an 8.5% drop in March, according to the latest survey released by the ANZ bank.

Job ads declined for the 12th consecutive month in April. During the month, internet job ads slipped 8.1%, but newspaper ads rose 3.1%.

Annually, total job advertisements plunged 49.9% in April, representing the steepest fall on record. Newspaper ads were down 58.9% and internet ads dropped 49.2%.

The ANZ said the latest data indicates that the total employment would contract further in the coming months.
