Total job advertisements in Australia, including those in newspapers and in the internet, fell 8.5% month-on-month in March, after a 10.4% drop in February, as employers cut back their hiring intentions, the latest survey from the ANZ Bank revealed Monday.

Job ads declined for the 11th consecutive month, and stood at 147,804 in March.

During the month, newspaper ads fell 6.6% compared to a 25.2% drop in February, while internet job ads dropped 8.6%, after a 9.4% decline in the previous month.

Annually, total job ads slipped 44.6%, representing the steepest decline since the survey began in 1999.
