RTTNews - Thursday, a report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the merchandise imports dropped a seasonally adjusted 5% month-on-month in May. Total imports declined to A$16.39 billion from A$17.19 billion in the preceding month.

In May, import of capital goods fell 14%, while that of intermediate and other merchandise goods declined 7%. Import of consumption goods were down 1%. However, import of other goods rose 35%.

Meanwhile, on the basis of the original series, goods imports were down 9% month-on-month in May.
