Axion International recently announced that the Company received an order to supply $250,000 worth of their proprietary Recycled Structural Composite (RSC) crossties to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). These are for use in the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) that connects Dallas and Fort Worth. Named after the Trinity River, which flows between Dallas and Fort Worth, the TRE commuter rail line was created by an inter-local agreement between DART and the Fort Worth Transit Authority (The T).
Axion International is servicing the contract through Herzog Transit Services, which operates the TRE line. Axion, as part of the initial order, will deliver approximately $250,000 worth of their RSC crossties to replace traditional wood ties.
Their RSC is an ideal wood substitute for railway crossties. The Company’s RSC crossties are immune to rot, insect damage and mold. They are also expected to last for decades because of their proprietary design and construction from 100 percent recycled plastic.
Axion International’s ties will be utilized on a two mile long bridge (the Beltline Overpass). The Company’s ties were chosen by the TRE because of their strength and longevity. This should significantly lower the maintenance and replacement costs over the life of the bridge.
