France-based toymaker Lexibook’s baby bath seat/chair was recalled Friday after failing to meet safety standards due to a potential drowning hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. Stating all of the chairs fall under the recall, the CPSC said the seats, meant for children six months and up, have the potential to tip over while the child is seated and thus pose a threat for drowning in the bath tub.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled baby bath seats and contact the online retailer where it was purchased for return instructions and to receive a full refund, or a refund in the form of a store credit or gift card, depending on the online retailer. All known purchasers will be contacted directly about the recall,” the CPSC said.

There have been no reported incidents of children dying as a result of the chair. Of the nearly 7,000 units sold in the U.S., 5,900 were sold by creative and educational toy outlet Young Explorers, while major retail titan Amazon sold another 780. Two other outlets, Wayfair.com and Unbeatablesale.com also sold a combined 265 chairs.

Some form of a refund is available at each of the outlets. Young Explorers and UnbeatableSale are each offering a full refund, while Amazon will issue a refund in the form of a gift card and WayFair by store credit. The sales were made between January 2013 and August of this year and the price ranged between $30 and $60.

Lexibook, which has licensing deals for such renowned brands like Barbie, Spiderman, Hello Kitty, and Disney, has yet to make a statement regarding the recall. Based off a search of the CPSC’s records, this is the first time a Lexibook product has been recalled in the U.S.

In regards to products for children, the bath seat recall follows the pulling of Skidders Footwear shoes due to fears a child could cut themselves on the sharp edges of the shoe's rivets.
